About Us

We are celebrating 22 years of Caring, Learning and Friendship!

Established in 1987, Utica Community Daycare is a non-profit corporation run by a volunteer board of directors. The Board consists of parents from the daycare, with representation from the Utica United Church, and the community at large. We are located in the quiet rural setting of Utica, only 5 minutes from Port Perry on Marsh Hill Rd. at Durham 21.

Our non-denominational program is licensed for 36 children:

  • Five toddlers ages 12 months to 30 months.
  • Sixteen preschool ages 24 months to 5 years.
  • Fifteen school-agers 5 - 12 years.

Toddler ratios are 1:5, Preschool ratios are 1:8 and School age ratios are 1:15. We have a full-time supervisor with a diploma in Early Childhood Education and at least 5 years experience in the child care field, three qualified Early Childhood Education teachers, and experienced cooking and cleaning staff. All staff are trained in first aid and CPR.

Our daycare is provincially licensed and government inspected on a regular basis. Municipal subsidies are available to those who qualify.

Philosophy

The goal of Utica Daycare is to promote growth of the whole child through programming and activities which support learning in the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative areas.

Programming is based on the Cognitve-Interactionist Approach to Early Childhood Education which allows children to take an active part in their own learning in all developmental areas. Children are given the opportunity to make choices within a safe and supportive environment and programming is geared toward the needs of the children at each stage of their development.

With the firm belief that it is the parent who knows their child best, staff strive to work as a team with parents to guide and prepare children for the school experience and for life as a whole.
